Who are we?

We are members of the Freekey team.
We work participatively.
Participative means to take part.
Participative means that
we plan, organise and evaluate everything together.
It also means
that in our team we have disabled people and people without disabilities as well.

We are diverse.
Our teammates each have individual experiences.
Our teammates each studied in different schools.
Some of our teammates’ knowledge comes from experience.
Experiential knowledge means that
we gain knowledge through the experiences in our lives.
Some of our teammates are skilled researchers.
Research skill means that
we gain knowledge through scientific research.
Experiential knowledge and researchers’ skills are of equal importance.
Every member of our team is valuable.
In our team everybody is equal.
Some people in our team work with the assistance of someone else.
We call this assistance personal help.

What we do

We believe everybody can make decisions about their own life.
We can control our lives by the choices we make.
Everybody knows what is best for them.
Everybody knows what they need.

There are people as well
who need help in their life.
For instance:

  • with eating,
  • with getting dressed,
  • or with having a bath or a shower.

Everybody needs individual assistance.
Individual assistance is called individual need.

We provide personalised help.
Personalised help means
that we help everyone with
what they need.
Many people are not yet able to have personal help.
Personal help is not yet widespread in Hungary.
We would
like for everybody to be able to have personal help.
Personal help is also called personal assistance.
Personal assistance is a service.

The person providing personal assistance is called a personal assistant.
The disabled person gives the personal assistant a job.

The disabled person is the personal assistant’s employer.

The personal assistant helps the disabled person throughout the day.
The personal assistant helps in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening and at night as well.

The personal assistant helps the disabled person every day.
The personal assistant helps from Monday to Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday as well.
The personal assistant helps the disabled person with everything.
The personal assistant helps with
what the disabled person needs help with.

For instance:

  • with eating,
  • with getting dressed,
  • with having a bath or a shower,
  • with getting to the workplace,
  • with public transportation,
  • or with spending their free time.

There are disabled people who
require a lot of personal assistance.
We call them people with high support needs.

Freekey aims
to ensure that people with high support needs
make conscious use of personal assistance.
Consciousness means that
the person with high support needs knows his/her rights.
Consciousness means that
the person with high support needs knows
that he/she gives a job to his/her personal assistant.
The person with high support needs is the employer of the personal assistant.
Consciousness also means that
the person with high support needs knows
that he/she is in charge of the personal assistant’s work.

I would like to have an assistant

Every disabled person is entitled to personal assistance.
The disabled person is free to request personal assistance.
The organisation of personal assistance is the state’s mandatory task.

What are the characteristics of good personal assistance?

  • The disabled person is the personal assistant’s employer.
  • The disabled person chooses the personal assistant.
  • The disabled person decides
when and how the personal assistant helps him/her.

Freekey aims to
get disabled people and personal assistants to think
jointly about:

  • What kind of personal assistance does the disabled person need?
  • What kind of characteristics should the personal assistant possess?
  • How can a disabled person find a good personal assistant?
  • How can a disabled person be a good employer?
  • How is the disabled person able to pay for the personal assistant’s work?

I am a family member of a disabled person

Why is personal assistance good?
The disabled person can decide
what kind of personal assistance he/she needs.
The personal assistance is controlled by the disabled person.
The disabled person will be able to control his/her own life.
When the disabled person controls his/her own life
then it is not the family’s responsibility to organise personal help.

Freekey works together
with the family members of the disabled person.
The family members have plenty of experiences.
Experiences are important in order to organise good personal assistance.

Freekey aims to
get disabled people and their family to think
jointly about the following questions:

  • How does the disabled person manage the personal assistant’s job?
  • How and where can we find a good personal assistant?
  • How are we able to pay for the personal assistant’s work?

Would you like to work with us?
